The demand for health-related products and services is growing worldwide. The Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action’s Healthcare Export Initiative serves to help the German healthcare sector make use of the opportunities offered by this growth and to target new sales markets. Its focus is on providing support for sectors like pharmaceuticals, medical technology, medical biotechnology and digital healthcare services. This is to help strengthen Germany’s position as a leading exporter of healthcare products and services (export volume in 2022: €186.2 bn, source: National Health Account) The services provided by the Export Initiative are especially targeted at small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the healthcare sector.
More information can be found on the Healthcare Export Initiative’s website, which is available in both German and English. On the German website, company representatives can access export knowledge on potential export opportunities in the global target markets and industry-specific information on doing business abroad. The wide range of services provided is supplemented by an overview of the current calls and funding programmes and an events calendar listing relevant trade fairs, conferences, business missions and delegation trips.
On the English website , the Healthcare Export Initiative presents the strengths of the German healthcare sector. Foreign customers, partners and other interested persons are provided information on why they will benefit from working with companies from Germany.
There is an online business register, providing potential partners and customers with contacts to more than 3500 German healthcare companies. Information events for local healthcare decision-makers focusing on selected target markets help market the German healthcare sector worldwide.
Another priority of the Healthcare Export Initiative is the provision of political backing with the aim of facilitating exports to difficult markets. The Initiative has been active on almost all continents since the beginning of 2011. Its specific measures to support targeted foreign trade and investment activities are being developed jointly with the professional associations representing the German healthcare sector and in close coordination with the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action.
